Prague

Prague is unquestionably a spectacular city. Situated

north of Austria and south of the German capital, Berlin,

Prague is an ancient melting pot at the heart of Europe's

nations, with a distinct identity. Since the Velvet Revolution, which brought an end to communism the then Czechoslovakia, travellers and tourists have been rediscovering the mystique synonymous with this 'golden city of spires' and its blend of Medieval, Baroque and Renaissance buildings. Among its most attractive areas to visit are the 1100 year-old Prague Castle, which overlooks Charles Bridge and the Vltava River, as well as the Lesser Town, Jewish quarter and the New and old Towns. Together they make up some of the most stunning panoramic views in Europe, and are full of cobbled back streets and alleys and architectural wonders where where you can find a diverse set of art and craft shops, restaurants and cafes.

During the summer the

morning is a great

time to wonder around

 Prague, through,

by and under

post-modern art

displayed annually by

the city's Sculpture

Grande, going on to

visit perhaps a museum,

gallery or a park at

midday. There are ample opportunities to

check out one of the

cities famed classical

music concerts

during the evening. The Prague Spring

Festival and related events throughout

the year, as well as various operas, provide

an inexhaustable selection of

entertainment. Visitors can also go to one

of the city's outdoor art house cinemas,

buy a Czech beer, and watch a film on a

screen, behind which a view of the castle and Charles

bridge serves as a backdrop.

Prague is also the ideal city for the TEFL teacher. There is always something going on in the evenings, with a multitude of bars, pubs and restaurants to choose from. Trainees visit them to sample the same atmosphere Hollywood has been flocking to the city to put on to the big screen. Tefl Europe is located a short distance away, and works in tandem with English Non-stop, which also has a head office between Prague's financial district and its historical centre.
